Introduction
When you add learners to Boost Insights, you must set them up in their year groups and classes.
However, you can use custom groups to group them in other ways--by reading group, for example.
In addition, Boost Insights features contextual groups that are automatically populated when learners are added to the system with the relevant information.
You can create test assignments and view marksheets and reports for these custom and contextual groups instead of your standard classes.
Managing Custom Groups
To create a custom group:
- Log in to Boost Insights.
- Click the Admin Hub icon in the bottom left corner.
- Go to the orange Groups tab.
- Click New Group in the bottom right corner.
- Name the group and add a description (optional).
- Tick learners on the left to add them to the group on the right. Greyed out learners are in Pupils > Without Access. You can still add them to the group, but they won't appear in Boost Insights until they're granted access.
- Click Save Group.

Managing Contextual Groups
Contextual groups are predefined groups in Boost Insights that are automatically populated by learners when the relevant information is added to their record. You can find them in the Admin Hub under Groups > Contextual Groups.
The full list of contextual groups is as follows:
- Pupil premium
- Non-pupil premium
- Disadvantaged
- Service children
- Free school meals
- Ever 6 free school meals
- More able
- SEN
- Traveller
- Looked after
- Ever looked after
- English as second language (ESL)
If you import your learners by syncing with your MIS, then you will be given the option of importing the data required for the contextual groups during set up. You can edit the approved fields at any time by logging in to your Wonde or Arbor account, depending on which one you are synced with.
Please note that Wonde syncs do not detect SEN or Traveller status.
If you manage your learners manually, you can add their contextual information during account creation or by editing them after the fact, either directly or via CSV.
