Introduction
When you assign a test or quiz, the system will generate a five-digit test code for the assignment and a URL for the interactive test taker. Your learners will use these to access the test instead of logging in to Boost Insights directly.
The URL is unique to your institution's account. You can find it at any time by clicking the Test Taker URL icon in the top right corner of Boost Insights (second from left).
Test codes are unique to each test assignment. For help finding an assignment's test code, click here.
It is imperative that you review our technical requirements before administering the interactive tests. Failure to do so can impact test performance and data retention.
Logging in to an Interactive Test
The instructions below describe the steps a learner must take to access their interactive test.
Learners will not be able to log in to the test before its scheduled date on the interactive test calendar. However, there is no time limit on starting the test after this date.
- Go to your institution's test taker URL.
- Enter the unique five-digit test assignment code and click Next.
- Enter your birthday and click Next.
- Select your name and click Next. The test player will fill the screen automatically.
- Click Start when you are ready to begin the test.
Taking an Interactive Test
When the learner presses Start, they will be taken to the first question and the timer will begin counting down to 00:00 in the top right. (You can hide the timer for learners who may experience test anxiety or find the timer unhelpful when assigning the test.)
The current question number is highlighted in the top left and right. Move between questions by clicking the arrow buttons on either side of the question numbers, clicking the question numbers themselves, or using the Next and Previous buttons at the bottom of the screen.
You can also click the Review button to see which questions have been answered and navigate between them.
All Year 1 and 2 tests for New PiRA, New PUMA, PiRA for Scotland, and New GaPS can be paused by clicking the Pause icon.
Switch between full screen and windowed mode by clicking the Full Screen icon at the top of the sidebar.
Click the Flag icon to flag a question on the Review screen that you may wish to revisit later.
Click the Accessibility icon to adjust the test's font size.
Finish the test at any time by clicking Review in the top left, then Finish in the bottom right. You will also be prompted to click Review on the final question.
If a learner accidentally logs out of a test partway through, when they log back in the timer will resume from where they left off.
Network Interruptions
If the connection to the test taker is lost, a red banner will appear at the top of the screen. Answers will continue to be saved locally so that learners can still progress through the test. However, they will not be able to submit and complete their test until the connection is restored. A green banner will appear once the connection is restored.
