Introduction
This article will show you how to add students to your Boost account. There are three different methods to choose from:
-
- Adding students individually via the Admin Hub
- Adding students in bulk via CSV upload
- Enabling self-registration for students
Before adding a new student, it's worth checking if they're already registered.
If they're in Students > With Access, they'll be able to log in to Boost, and you won't need to do anything else.
If they're in Students > Without Access, you'll need to grant them full access before they can log in to Boost.
If they're in Students > Pending Deletion, you'll need to cancel their deletion and grant them access before they can log in to Boost.
Adding Students Individually via the Admin Hub
This option is best for adding a small number of students at a time.
- Log in to Boost.
- Click the Admin Hub icon in the top right corner.
- Go to Students > With Access.
- Click Add Student in the bottom right corner.
- Enter the details of the student you would like to add.
- Students can be registered with either an email address or a username of your own creation.
- Students registered with an email address will receive an email prompting them to verify their account and create a password. If they forget their password, they can reset it using the Forgotten Your Password? link on the Boost login page.
- Students who are registered with a username will need a password created and managed for them. They will also need to enter your institution's centre ID number at the login screen. This can be found under your institution's name at the top of the Admin Hub.
- Click Save.
Once saved, the new student will be automatically placed in Students > With Access. Students registered with an email address will be able to log in to Boost after verifying their account and creating a password. Students registered with a username will be able to log in once you have told them their password.
Adding Students in Bulk via CSV Upload
Uploading students via CSV import allows you to upload large groups simultaneously.
- Log in to Boost.
- Click the Admin Hub icon in the top right corner.
- Go to Students > With Access.
- Click Import CSV in the bottom right corner and select Download a Template.
- Open the CSV template in Excel.
- Fill in the details of the students you want to add in Boost and save the CSV file.
- For guidance on filling in the CSV file, click here.
- Return to Students > With Access in the Admin Hub and click Import CSV in the bottom right corner.
- Click Select Your CSV... and choose the completed CSV template.
- Click Upload the CSV.
During peak times, such as the start of a new academic year in September, your CSV upload will likely take much longer than normal. If your file says that it is validated and pending processing, please rest assured that your file is in the queue. You do not need to leave the window open, nor remain logged into your account at this stage. If you are concerned that your file has become stuck (i.e. it has remained as processing for more than 24 hours since the time you uploaded it), please contact the digital support team.
Please note that students who are registered with a username will need a password created and managed for them. They will also need to enter your institution's centre ID number at the login screen. This can be found under your institution's name at the top of the Admin Hub.
Enabling Self-Registration for Students
Enabling self-registration removes the need to register students yourself entirely, but means you have less immediate control over the students who are registered.
- Click the Admin Hub icon in the top right corner.
- Go to Preferences.
- In the Student Preferences box, tick 'Allow students to manage their own login credentials' and 'Allow students to self-register via this URL'.
- Click Copy Link to copy the self-registration link, then paste it somewhere secure for your students to access (e.g., an email or digital noticeboard).
- If your current link does not work or you think it has been compromised, you can disable it and generate a new one by clicking Generate a New Link.
When a student clicks the self-registration link, they will need to fill in their name and email address. They will then be placed in Students > With Access and sent an email prompting them to verify their email address and create a password. Once they've completed these steps, they'll be able to log in to Boost.
