Curriculum plans are the scheme of work for a given theme/unit. They cover topics within a theme/unit, with a recommendation for how you might teach them. They provide a suggested order of topics, with suggested resources and notes for your teaching.
Curriculum plans are customisable, so that you can adjust and edit them to suit your teaching needs.
You can access them by selecting 'Go to curriculum plans' from the homepage, or from the left-hand side menu:
You can filter for curriculum plans made by different users:
- Original are those made by Hodder Education
- Personal are those you have made yourself
- Shared by Me are those you've shared with colleagues
- Shared with Me are the plans colleagues have shared with you
Each curriculum plan tile has a label to denote whether they are 'original' or 'personal'.
Clicking on a curriculum plan tile will take you to the curriculum plan. The curriculum plan is divided into strands. Different key stages and related theme overviews are provided on the right hand side.
Hovering and selecting the blue 'table of contents' button lets you move between topics quickly:
You can edit, copy, share and download a curriculum plan.
If you edit an original curriculum plan and save your changes, your edits are saved as a separate file, so you don't need to worry about making a mistake.
The options for 'share' and 'sharing information' are only available for personal curriculum plans. This is because original curriculum plans are already available to all registered staff members.
Sharing a curriculum plan
You can share curriculum plans you have made with colleagues. This option is not available for the curriculum plan(s) that come with the theme/unit, as these are already available to all registered teachers.
1. First, select the 'share' icon:
2. Choose whether your colleagues will receive a read-only version, or if they have permission to edit the curriculum plan.
Then, search for the teachers you want to share the curriculum plan with.
You also have the option of adding instructions or further notes.
When you're ready to proceed, select 'Next':
3. Finally, you can also cc' in other colleagues to this share. This might be helpful for notifying head of departments or similar, but this step is optional.
When you're ready, select 'Done', and the named teachers will receive access to the curriculum plan:
Downloading a curriculum plan
You can download a curriculum plan, or parts of it, to keep a copy on your device, or for printing, and so on. You can download both original and personal curriculum plans.
To download a curriculum plan, select the 'download' button:
Confirm which parts of the curriculum plan you want to download. You can select topics or sub-topics if you want to download these specifically, or choose 'Select All' to download the whole curriculum plan in one go.
When you're ready to proceed, select 'Download':
4. The curriculum plan will then download as a table in a Word document to your device.
Copy and edit Curriculum Plans
You can make a copy of a curriculum plan, to edit its content. To do this, select the arrow icon:
The greyed-out options are only available for curriculum plans made/edited by you or another colleague:
Selecting 'Duplicate' will immediately create a copy of the curriculum plan as it currently is, and will be named as a '...(copy)' unless you choose to later amend this yourself:
If you choose 'Edit', you'll be able to edit both the structure and content of the curriculum plan. Selecting 'edit' for an original plan will make a new, saved copy (so you won't overwrite the original by mistake).
Editing is divided up into two main parts: the toggle structure view, and the toggle editor view.
Editing the structure
When you select 'Edit', the default tab selected will be the toggle structure view.
Use the tile icon on the left-hand side to drag and drop sections and sub-sections into a new order.
The pen button lets you re-name a particular section or sub-section.
The bin icon allows you to delete that section or sub-section entirely:
At the end of each sub-section and the listing of sections you can add a new sub-section or section.
Editing the content
To edit content sections within a curriculum plan, select the 'Toggle Editor View' tab:
To edit the notes under 'Topic, sub-topic', click into the box. This will open up the editing field:
The toolbar lets you alter the appearance of the text, add lists, add links and so on.
Please note: if you want to change the name of the topic or sub-topic, you'll need to do so on the 'Toggle Structure View' tab, as outlined in the earlier section of this article.
When you're happy with your edits, remember to select 'Save' to save your changes.
